Reema Patel
Anaesthetics and Intensive Care Medicine
Reema Patel is an Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine registrar working in Edinburgh. She has had a keen interest in Global Health from an undergraduate level when she completed a volunteer placement in Kenya and a subsequent medical elective at a government hospital in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. She has travelled to Ethiopia to volunteer at Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital in Addis Ababa where she worked to improve the provision of, and training in, Anaesthesia services. Reema served on the GASOC committee as National Anaesthetic Rep (2018-2020), and subsequently President (2020-2021), where she worked with various National and International organisations to further the overall aims of GASOC. She is currently working with the Scotland Malawi Anaesthesia and Critical Care Partnership to improve the provision of Critical Care services on the ground in conjunction with the Scottish Intensive Care Society. Reema also continues to work with colleagues in Ethiopia by facilitating CBD sessions with local residents and has recently become involved in the Safer Anaesthesia From Education (SAFE) programme, run by the WFSA and Association of Anaesthetists.
